No Walking Dead on Dish Network

Last week I considered leaving DirecTV because of the Viacom channels (Nickelodeon, Comedy Central, & MTV being removed). My daughter was really missing her cartoons. I was excited when I talked to Dish Network because of their 2000 hour DVR hopper. It would be cheaper (1/2 price compared to DirecTV for the 1st year) and a few dollars cheaper the 2nd year but that was for 2 HD TVs and at that time we only had one 200 hour DVR with DirecTV.  Plus all the free pay channels for 3 months! So before switching my service I carefully compared the channel lists to see if I would be missing anything important. Then I remembered the warnings while watching The Walking Dead on AMC that it wasn’t available on Dish Network. Talk about your DEAL BREAKER!

So I did what any intelligent person would do. I called DirecTV to tell them I was thinking of leaving and to see if they could help me out. They gave me a free 2nd 200 hour DVR with whole home (meaning we can watch/share/delete recorded shows from either receiver).  Installation was free, too. They gave me $29 off my monthly bills for 1 year.  I also got 6 free months of Starz & 3 free months of HBO (so I can get caught up on TrueBlood, of course).  I won’t be saving as much money as I would have with Dish. And I don’t have as much record time. But, I do have my Walking Dead (and TrueBlood)!!!

The next morning all the Viacom channels came back. I was just glad I had called DirecTV the day before!

When the Dish Network salesman called me the next day and I told him I wouldn’t be switching because they dind’t have AMC, he was less than friendly. He said it was just like the dispute between DirecTV and Viacom and they would get it settled. I wasn’t willing to take that risk. He tried to push and told him not to bother. I committed to another 2 year contract with DirecTV when I added the 2nd receiver. I swear he was personally offended (I’m guessing he works on commission). He said in his shittiest voice, “You’ll be back!”.

I said, “At least not for 2 years.” What a dick.
