Southland’s Michael Cudlitz Joins The Walking Dead

Southland may have been cancelled, but for those loyal fans out there, one of the main stars can now be seen on the ever-popular The Walking Dead on AMC.

Michael Cudlitz, who played Officer John Cooper, will join the cast of AMC’s The Walking Dead sometime in Season 4, the exact time not known as of yet.  He will portray one of the best known characters from the comics, Sgt. Abraham Ford.  An Army officer and sports coach before the zombie apocalypse, Ford becomes a critical part of Rick’s group and if his character follows the storyline from the comics, has a great deal of emotional baggage and is on a mission.

The news of Cudlitz joining the show had been highly secretive and was just recently announced at New York Comic-Con.  “I was laying low because [Abraham has] a very iconic look,” explains Cudlitz, who was approached by the AMC smash last spring (shortly after he wrapped work on what would turn out to be Southland’s series finale). “It would be very easy for somebody to put the pieces together if they saw me strolling around [near the show’s set.] So I was staying very close to the hotel. And I didn’t hang out with any of the other castmembers.”

Season 4 of The Walking Dead premieres tonight at 9/8c on AMC.

Season 7 of The Walking Dead is back in October!
